MessageMedia launches new Shopify app to boost revenue for Australian ecommerce businesses

6 November 2019, Melbourne: Business mobile messaging provider, MessageMedia, has today launched SMS Marketing Automation on the Shopify App Store to help over 30,000 Australian e-tailers convert more sales and prevent cart abandonment.

Cart abandonment is a major issue in ecommerce worldwide, with 70 per cent of shoppers abandoning carts before a purchase is complete and a staggering $29b in lost sales every year in Australia.

SMS Marketing Automation leverages the cut-through power of SMS, which averages 90 per cent open rates in 90 seconds, enabling retail brands to engage and re-target their customers in order to convert more sales and increase repeat business.

MessageMedia Chief Marketing Officer, Tara Salmon, said the app gives Shopify brands the most effective tool to capture the attention of customers and drive conversions directly on their mobile device ‘point of sale’.

“More and more brands in Australia are realising the strong impact of SMS marketing. MessageMedia’s SMS Marketing Automation app will assist with increasing sales through retargeting and cart recovery, using smarter marketing tactics that deliver the right message at the right time, direct to their customers’ phones,” Salmon said.

Director of online pet food supplier to cafes K9 Katering, Noah Tyler, said his business has experienced excellent results during its beta trial of the SMS Marketing Automation app. “Our online business is already growing rapidly, but with the SMS Marketing Automation app we’re now capturing new customers and creating more sales opportunities every day,” Tyler said.

“This is a marketing tool that every retail brand should be considering to acquire customers and retain existing ones. As an online business, we need to capture our customers’ attention fast and make sure they do more than just browse our products. We need to make it easy for them to take the next step and complete their purchase. That’s where SMS abandoned cart reminders come in to help us stay top of mind and sell even more.”

It’s a critical strategy for brands to implement with the 2019 PayPal mCommerce Index reporting that one in four online sales are made through mobile phones and, of these, 43 per cent report shopping at least once a week through their mobile device.

MessageMedia’s recent study into consumer attitudes and behaviour towards SMS marketing found the majority of Australians (63 per cent) said SMS was more likely to get their attention over email or app notifications, and 62 per cent said they like being contacted by retailers via SMS.

To set up SMS automation for abandoned cart recovery, businesses can add the app to their Shopify dashboard by searching the Shopify App Store.
