Zapier SMS integration automates on-call staff roster for better clarity and efficiency

As there was no direct integration for text messaging into his legacy healthcare system, Hooshmand looked at setting up an automated workflow through Zapier, which was easy. Hooshmand already had experience using Zapier to send automated emails to trainees about reminders on topic, time and location of tutorials through Google Sheets.

Using a similar workflow, Hooshmand used Google Sheets, Zapier and MessageMedia’s SMS integration to build a rostering solution:

  1. Hooshmand migrated on-call spreadsheet to Google Sheets
  2. Set up a workflow where the person on-call the following day automatically receives a text asking them to confirm availiability
  3. Two-way text message allows them to reply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’
  4. Response is added to Google Sheets besides their name, so everyone can see who is on call and their confirmation
  5. If confirmed, automatic notification is sent to admin officers alerting them of confirmation.
